HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA Program

Rolling Hills Library is now a part of the Excel Adult High School program from Gale and the State Library of Missouri.  This program lets adults achieve a complete high school diploma, not an equivalent or a certificate.  Learners will apply and also send transcripts from previous schools and then find out how many courses they have to take online to finish.  Students must take at least 6.0 credits online at Excel High School to graduate.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Each "seat" has a set cost, currently $850.  Once a student is assigned a seat, they have 24 months to complete the required credits for graduation (21.5).  Any credits that can be supplied through transcripts or equivalency testing reduce the number of online courses a student must take to graduate.  Our Friends of the Library has generously funded 8 seats for students to use.  Other community organizations or area employers can offer to pay the scholarship fee on behalf of a student, and we will enroll that student as long as the life skills class is taken and passed with at least a 70% score.  There are no limits on the total number of students we can have simultaneously enrolled.

ELIGIBILITY

  • be a Missouri resident AND a resident of our library district* 
  • be 18 years old or older and not currently enrolled in high school
  • have and know how to use an email account
  • study a minimum of 7 hours per week or 28 hours per month
  • have regular access to a computer with internet
  • participate in an interview process prior to admission

Library staff can help with some of the steps.  We have a limited supply of laptops and wifi hotspots for checkout reserved for students, but courses can also be completed on our public computers.  Not everyone will be admitted to this program.  A two-week prerequisite online life skills class is required before full admission.  


*The library district you live in is listed on your voter registration card and and on your property tax statement(s).  All of Andrew County is in the RHCL district.  All of Buchanan County is as well, except for the area within the 1965 city limits of St. Joseph.  In general, if you live east of Leonard Road, south of Parker Road, or south of Menard's, you live in our district.  If you live on the outskirts of St. Joseph, check out this map for the boundaries.
